Editing

I’ve been an editor for multiple publications and have experience editing print copy and web copy and  with Word Track Changes. Below are some of the documents I’ve edited in print and with Word Track Changes. My web copy editing experience was done in WordPress.

Print Edits

Document 1: BYU Magazine, Back Cover Feature

This first edited document is intended to be a short blurb for the back cover of BYU Magazine, written to be submitted to the editors of BYU Magazine. I was asked to edit the document for mechanical errors and to provide substantive suggestions. Because this submission was so short, I did my best to think about how everything worked together in the bigger picture. This sample is used with permission from the author.

DOCUMENT 2: BYU MAGAZINE, “Out of the blue”

This second edited document is intended to be a short piece for the “Out of the Blue” section of BYU Magazine, written to be submitted to the editors of BYU Magazine. I was asked to edit the document for mechanical errors and to provide substantive suggestions. The lighter marks on the edits with the initials “CL” were the edits that the author accepted. As I edited this document, I wanted to make sure that everything was tied together and submitted in the proper format. Word Track Changes EDITS

DOCUMENT 1: Mormon Insights, “Finding the MILLENNIAL Within”

This first document was edited with Word Track Changes and is intended to be a “Daily Living” or “Church and Society” article to be submitted to the editors of the web publication Mormon Insights. I was asked to edit the document for mechanical errors and to provide substantive suggestions to fit the article to the style of Mormon Insights. For this submission, I made a note to  the author about maintaining the tone of Mormon Insights and the order by which the author presented the information. The yellow highlighting indicates the changes that the author accepted. This sample is used with permission from the author.

DOCUMENT 2: MORMON INSIGHTS, “12 Warning Signs to Help Prevent Suicide”

This second document was edited with Word Track Changes and is intended to be a “Daily Living” or “Church and Society” article to be submitted to the editors of the web publication Mormon Insights. I was asked to edit the document for mechanical errors and to provide substantive suggestions to fit the article to the style of Mormon Insights. For this submission, I tried to help the author assess the tone of her article compared to the articles published on Mormon Insights. The check marks indicates the changes that the author accepted.
